Erie County Medical Center Named in America’s Top 100 Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery

ECMC again recognized as among top 5% in the U.S. for overall Orthopedic Services, according to Healthgrades

BUFFALO, NY— Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) Corporation today announced that it is one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery, according to new research released by  Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients.  This achievement reflects ECMC’s outstanding clinical outcomes for Orthopedic Surgery and puts ECMC in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for overall Orthopedic services.  ECMC was also honored with the 2023 Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award™, a Five-Star rating in Total Knee Replacement for 2 years in a row (2022-2023), a Five-Star rating for Hip Fracture Treatment for 13 years in a row (2011-2023) and a 2023 Five-Star Distinction in Total Hip Replacement.

Healthgrades evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 31 of the most common conditions and procedures at nearly 4,500 hospitals across the country to identify the top-performing hospitals for specialty care.  This year’s analysis revealed significant variation in patient outcomes between America’s 100 Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery and hospitals that did not receive this distinction.  From 2019-2021, patients treated at hospitals receiving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery Award have, on average, a 41.6% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.*
