ECMC’s inpatient and outpatient programs for substance use are designed to serve a variety of needs. All programs provide comprehensive medical and psychological treatment methods and are certified by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) and The Joint Commission.

Inpatient Substance Use Treatment Services

ECMC offers substance use evaluations and treatment for individuals in need of withdrawal and stabilization services (detox).  An interdisciplinary team is available to assist patients in managing their moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms in a hospital-based setting.

  • Individuals interested in an evaluation for withdrawal and stabilization services can report to ECMC’s Emergency Department.
  • Substance use counselors are available in the Emergency Department 24 hours a day to provide substance use disorder evaluations.  Upon completion of the evaluation a recommendation will be made for the appropriate level of care. Individuals who are recommended for withdrawal and stabilization services will be transitioned to the Withdrawal and Stabilization program once medically cleared by an ED Physician. Individuals not recommended for withdrawal and stabilization services will be offered a referral to an appropriate level of care. 
  • The Withdrawal and Stabilization Program offers medically managed treatment to safely assist patients who are experiencing withdrawal from alcohol and/or other substances.

  • History and Physical conducted with a Medical Provider
  • 24/7 Nursing and Medical staff
  • Medications to Manage Withdrawal Symptoms
  • Initiation on Medication for Addiction Treatment
  • Individual and Group Therapy
  • Opiate Overdose Prevention Training for Patients and their Supports
  • Peer Support
  • Referrals and Linkages to Aftercare Treatment Programs

Outpatient Substance Use Treatment Services 

ECMC offers a variety of outpatient treatment services to individuals experiencing problems related to alcohol and/or substance related use. Evidence-Based Practices including Medication for Addiction Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care are utilized to support patient focused care.

The ECMC Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured, outpatient treatment opportunity that engages participants three days per week over four weeks. It serves as a step-down program for those individuals in need following completion of ECMC’s Partial Hospital Program (PHP) or can be a step-up from traditional outpatient programs for newly diagnosed patients.
