Canadian Patients

At ECMC, we’re proud to serve our Canadian patients with prompt, professional treatment in a variety of specialties, from cardiac care to renal care and beyond. In addition to the finest physicians and nurses available, you’ll also find professionals who can help you with the Ministry of Health to determine the best way to get the treatment you need.

Your Initial Consultation

You’ll find we will do everything we can to make getting your care at ECMC as quick and easy as possible. It all starts with a consultation about your condition. We will discuss treatment options with you and determine how best we can serve you.

You will need to bring all of the following pertinent medical information with you:

  • Your medical records from your primary physician with information about your condition
  • Your test results
  • Your medications list
  • Physician contact information
  • Health forms, referrals or approvals from your insurance company
  • Cash, credit card, or cashier’s check
  • Picture ID and proof of Canadian citizenship

From there, we can assist you in taking the proper steps with the Ministry of Health to determine if your procedure will be approved.

Ministry of Health Process

After the initial consultation, if you are a candidate for a surgical procedure and you wish to proceed, a Care Coordinator will explain the Ministry of Health approval process and give you the information you need.

  • Your primary physician in Canada will need to complete a “Prior Approval Application for Full Payment of Insured Out-of-Country Health Services” form and submit it to the Ministry of Health for you.
  • If your request for services is approved, your Care Coordinator will contact you to schedule a procedure date. This process can take a few days or a few weeks, but we will do all we can to speed the process for you.
  • If the Ministry of Health does not approve your procedure, you can still choose to have ECMC perform it, but you will have to pay all charges in full, prior to the procedure date.
