Because ECMC is the area’s only adult trauma center, our surgeons are routinely called upon to save the lives of people who have been injured in a car accident or fall. That’s one reason why, unlike other hospitals, the surgeons at ECMC specialize in major surgeries – hip replacement, shoulder reconstruction, spine surgeries and other complex procedures.

Of course, our technology and other resources also help make ECMC your best choice for major surgery. Our new, minimally invasive surgical suite features advanced video technology that lets surgeons perform procedures through small incisions, with minimal scarring and fewer complications. Opened in 2003, it’s the only adult-focused operating room of its kind in Western New York.

In 2005, we acquired Compass, a navigation system for neurosurgery that isolates and identifies tumor location during surgery, providing a “map” for the surgeons even before they make their first cut. In addition, ECMC’s new ambulatory recovery area puts all services in one central location, with dedicated nurses and staff for pre- and post-operative care.
Of course, as part of our surgical services, ECMC offers a pain management program with steroid injections for patients in chronic pain.
