On Saturday, September 17th, the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) and the ECMC Foundation held its sixth Rehab Symposium, titled “A Multidisciplinary Approach to Pediatric Therapeutic Interventions.”  For this conference, many of the region’s most experienced clinicians were invited to speak on a variety of topics pertaining to pediatric-based rehabilitation.

Area therapists, rehab professionals, and therapy students from the community were invited to learn about some of the specialty services that are available at ECMC.  The keynote speaker was Laura McArdell, PhD, who lectured on “Autism Spectrum Disorder:  Diagnostic Principles and Foundations for Treatment.”  Other presenters offered sessions during the summer or on event day including Jennifer Felber, PhD; Katherine Kinney, OTR; Jeremy Doak, MD; Lynn McIvor, OTD; Lisa Milosevski, MS, OTR/L; Jenna Romano, SLP; Sarah Pictor, PT, DPT, PCS; TJ Daley, CPO;  Stacy Chambers; Erin Brunelle, MS, OTR/L; Jackie Hensley, PT, DPT, LMT; Lori Ciesielski, MS, OTR; Kathryn Budin, MS Ed, CCC/L-SLP; Karen Spriggs, RN; Sharon A. Ray, LCSW-R; Katrina Fulcher-Rood, PhD; and May Shogan from the International Institute of Buffalo.

This event was initially scheduled for March 2020 but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  We are grateful to the speakers for returning and the community for their collective patience as we were able to hold a hybrid event with limited in-person attendance while also offering a live-stream and remote access option for attendees to view sessions over the following two months.

Kevin Jenney, PT, DPT, is Supervisor of Rehabilitation Services, Acute Care for Erie County Medical Center.
