Biography

Dr. Leo Raphael is a psychiatrist specializing in pain medicine and psychosomatic medicine. At ECMC, he uses his expertise in the comorbidity of medical and psychiatric illnesses to offer concurrent treatment strategies to our patients.

In addition to his clinical role at ECMC, Dr. Raphael brings his psychiatric expertise to his appointments as Psychiatric Consultant at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo.

Dr. Leo Raphael focuses his research in describing the psychosocial factors influencing healthcare utilization of chronic pain conditions. Further, he has worked extensively in pain management education, and is presently developing pain medicine training modules and didactics for incorporation into psychiatry residency curricula.

Dr. Raphael has earned a variety of honors for his clinical and research works, including the Didactic Teacher of the Year Award and Commendation for Teaching Excellence to Faculty in Clinical Sciences.
