Facility earns prestigious national recognition for sixth consecutive year
BUFFALO, NY—Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) Corporation today announced that Terrace View Long-Term Care Facility has again been recognized on Newsweek’s Best Nursing Homes 2026 list. This prestigious award, which Terrace View has received in six consecutive years, is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The survey data was collected from June to August 2025 for three categories of nursing homes: 50-99 beds, 110-149 beds and 150+ beds. Of the approximate 600 skilled nursing facilities that operate in New York State, 93 received this recognition for 2026. Terrace View was ranked 45th of the 74 long-term care facilities in New York State with 150+ beds. The awards list can currently be viewed on Newsweek’s website: https://rankings.newsweek.com/americas-best-nursing-homes-2026-150-beds
Alexis Kayser, Newsweek’s Healthcare Editor said, “One of the most important decisions families face is choosing a trusted nursing home for themselves or a loved one. Whether the need is for day-to-day support, medical care or long-term recovery, finding the right facility can make a profound difference in health outcomes and overall quality of life.”
Thomas J. Quatroche Jr., PhD, ECMC President and CEO, said, “On behalf of the dedicated caregivers at Terrace View, it is an honor to again be recognized as one of Newsweek’s Best Nursing Homes. This prestigious, national third-party affirmation reinforces the high-quality care that distinguishes Terrace View along with the kindness and compassion that out Terrace View caregivers provide our residents and patients.”
Ms. Kayser continued, “According to the Department of Health and Human Services, there are more than 15,000 Medicare- or Medicaid-certified nursing homes in the United States, serving roughly 1.2 million residents. With so many options available, narrowing the field can feel daunting. To help guide that process, Newsweek and global data intelligence firm Statista are proud to present the America’s Best Nursing Homes 2026 ranking. This year’s list recognizes the top 1,200 nursing homes across the United States. Facilities were evaluated on four pillars including performance data, peer recommendations, accreditations and resident satisfaction, with performance data carrying an increased weight in 2026 to reflect the growing emphasis on clinical quality metrics. Other updates this year include the addition of vaccination rates as new quality measures, the expansion of the ranking to cover 33 states across three size categories and an increase in the total number of facilities recognized. The result is a state-by-state list of nursing homes that stood out for their commitment to safety, quality of care and resident well-being.”
Terrace View was opened on February 8, 2013. It contains three floors of 96 skilled nursing beds each; one floor containing 66 sub-acute rehab beds; a 20-bed ventilator unit and 16-bed behavioral intervention unit – for a total of 390 beds. The building is connected to the ECMC main hospital and to other facilities on ECMC’s Grider Street health campus via a corridor used to transport patients and residents in need of varying degrees of medical care. The facility is organized into small-scale, 12-bed households, each with a living room and fireplace, kitchen and dining room. Each floor features a generous outdoor terrace and an indoor lounge with a view to the terrace. The ground floor includes shared communal spaces with adjacent gardens and courtyards. The features offer a stimulating community for residents, families and staff members.
