Volunteer at ECMC

What does it take to be a volunteer at ECMC? Energy, compassion, and a desire to live up to our promise of true care.

Ranging from students to retired adults, our volunteers take on the tasks that benefit both patients and staff at ECMC. As a volunteer, you’ll meet interesting people, be part of a highly motivated team, and perform important services for your community.

We offer several volunteer opportunities in several areas, and will do our best to match your talents and interests.

Volunteer Opportunities

>> Greeters

  • One of the most popular volunteer positions, the recovery room greeter acts as a liaison between the nurses in the recovery area and the patient’s family in the waiting room. The greeter welcomes the family to the hospital, periodically checks the status of the patient, and conveys this information to the family in the waiting room.

>> Clerical Assistants

  • Clerical volunteers perform basic clerical work in radiology, rehab medicine, and other offices, with duties consisting of filing, making copies, answering phones, and light typing.

>> Hospitality Carts

  • As a courtesy to our patients and families, we provide a hospitality cart with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Our outgoing, empathetic volunteers help prepare the cart and transport it throughout ECMC.

>> Transporters

  • Transporters move patients by wheelchair from their hospital room to a testing area or may assist in discharging them from the hospital by wheeling patients to their transportation. Transporters should possess a friendly and cheerful disposition and enjoy assisting patients.

Volunteer Perks

In addition to the rewards of bringing care and compassion to our patients, ECMC volunteers are rewarded in other ways, including:

  • Free, secured parking
  • Meal tickets
  • Uniforms
  • Documented work experience in New York State
