ECMCC Announces 9th Annual Summer Youth Intern Program

Hospital program continues to stand as the only such program in the region

The Erie County Medical Center Corporation’s (ECMCC) 9th Annual Summer Youth Intern Program today held an orientation for 125 high school students who will participate in a four-week comprehensive self-development program for area high school students administered by the ECMC Foundation. Fifty percent of the participating students come from Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown’s Summer Youth Employment and Internship Program.

Opioid Epidemic Lecture presented by Dr. Azadfard

As part of an ECMC Lecture Series on the current opioid epidemic open to all clinicians and staff, Reza Azadfard, MD, presented June 14th on opioid prevention and treatment.  Dr. Azadfard is Medical Director of Substance Abuse at ECMC and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences for the University at Buffalo.

ECMC Dental Residents Conduct Dental Exams and Oral Hygiene Screening at Buffalo Bills Mini-Camp

Third year for ECMC Dental Residents participating in Bills Mini-Camp

ECMC’s Dental Residents yesterday conducted daylong dental exams and oral hygiene screening for Buffalo Bills players at the team’s training facility in Orchard Park. Each player had a dental exam and many had intraoral impressions taken to fabricate mouth guards. This marks the third consecutive year that ECMC has participated in this effort under the direction of Dr. Greg Hudecki, the Bills’ team dentist. ECMC had six dental residents and two supervising dentists participate in the activity.

ECMC Leads Autism Training for Law Enforcement and First Responders

A parent rushes off with a kicking and screaming young child and observers believe the scene is child abduction. An individual displaying unusual behavior in a residential neighborhood is observed looking into homes and police are notified that a burglar is threatening homes. A teenager keeps moving products around on shelves in a department store and security determines that the person is in the act of shoplifting. While all of those situations may be true, it may also be as true that the persons engaged in the specific cited activities have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the people that they first encounter, usually law enforcement or another first responder do not know that they are encountering a person with autism.

The City of Buffalo has been selected by Reinvestment Fund and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to take part in the new Invest Health initiative.
