Echocardiography (ECHO)
ECMC’s non-invasive cardiac lab allows us to diagnose various aspects of cardiac disease without having to perform surgery. The lab’s services include echocardiography, EKG, stress testing and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), a semi non-invasive test of the heart and great vessels. With high-quality diagnostic echocardiograms, physicians can see the heart, great vessels and valves. This imaging technique-painless for patients-allows the physician to evaluate the size, thickness and movement of the heart's chambers and valves by use of ultrasound waves. Echocardiograms are safe, with no known risks from the clinical use of the ultrasound. Our digital echo and digital EKG management systems make it easy for your doctor to view your results, even in his or her own office. Because we perform tens of thousands of these tests each year, our nurses, technicians and specialists are experts in diagnosing cardiac conditions. And if you do need surgery, we have the best open-heart surgery survival rate in Western New York, according to a June 2006 New York State Department of Health report. Ask your doctor to refer you to ECMC.
