PUBLIC ACCESS TO RECORDS

The amended Freedom of Information Law ("FOIL"), which took effect on January 1, 1978, gives you the right of access to certain public records.* Erie County Medical Center Corporation ("ECMCC") has adopted guidelines governing when, where, and how you can see public records (the "Guidelines"). Records may be requested by regular mail or e-mail addressed to the Records Access Officer or in person at the address listed directly below by delivering a written request to the Records Access Officer.

The Guidelines can be seen at all places where records are kept. According to the Guidelines, records made publicly available by ECMCC in response to a specific written FOIL request can be seen at:

10 a.m.–3 p.m. Monday–Thursday

Alternatively, you may request that records be reproduced and mailed to you. ECMCC charges a statutorily authorized fee to cover the costs associated with such reproduction.

Please be advised that any records requested will not be available for inspection and/or copying for at least five (5) business days following the date ECMCC receives the request due to the amount of time required to locate and review such records to determine if they are subject to public disclosure. All requests for records will be processed in accordance with the procedures set forth in FOIL and the Guidelines.

Public Authorities Law, Article 10–C, Title 6; N.Y. Public Health Law; and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
