BUFFALO, NEW YORK; September 15, 2006-Today, representatives of KeyBank presented a check in the amount of $30,000 to benefit patients at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). The funds, donated to the ECMC Lifeline Foundation, Inc., will be used to support patient care services provided by the ECMC Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Emergency/Trauma Services and the Department of Ophthalmology.
KeyBank Western New York District President Sterling Kozlowski along with Vice President and Relationship Manager Bruce Bonhoff and Vice President for Community Affairs Marie E. Hare presented the check to ECMC Corporation Director of Rehabilitation Services Barbara Rosen and ECMC Outpatient Therapy Supervisor Marie Johnson, OTR. ECMC Lifeline Foundation Director Mark Robinson participated as event emcee.
"KeyBank is pleased to partner with ECMC in an effort to enhance patient care for Western New York residents and provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to those in need," said Sterling Kozlowski, president of Key's Western New York District.
ECMC Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Michael A. Young, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E.., stated, "This contribution from KeyBank to ECMC is very much appreciated and, as demonstrated in our rehab department, is already being put to very good use for the benefit of our patients. Additionally, portions of this generous donation will soon enhance patient care in our ophthalmology, emergency and trauma departments."
ECMC Department of Rehabilitation Physical Therapist John Lindhurst, PT, and an ECMC patient were on hand to demonstrate a rehabilitation therapeutic program/device named the Balance Master System, purchased with a portion of the funds contributed by KeyBank. The Balance Master System is a computerized therapy program that uses interactive technology to allow the clinician to objectively assess patients performing a variety of balance tasks that are essential for daily living activities. The System provides assessment and specific retraining for the sensory and motor components that are contributing to a patient's functional limitations. The software provides a visual image that demonstrates the movement of the patient in real time. The exercise protocols can be customized to meet the needs of a variety of patients. Patients with dizziness/disequilibrium, a history of falls, neurologic disorders, orthopaedic injuries and vestibular disorders are appropriate candidates for this therapeutic program.
ECMC's Rehabilitation Medicine Department is the most comprehensive rehabilitation service in Western New York, including occupational, physical and speech/language therapies, rehabilitation home health, pain management and other specialized services. ECMC also manages the busiest Emergency Department in Western New York and is the Regional Adult Trauma Center, serving critically ill and injured patients from all eight Western New York counties and beyond. Every ECMC patient is treated with the same top-level care regardless of their condition, ability to pay, or socio-economic status.
The mission of the ECMC Lifeline Foundation, Inc.--an independent, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation--is to assist Erie County Medical Center Corporation in procuring the resources needed to serve as Western New York's medical center of choice through excellence in patient care and customer service.
