Asthma

The Asthma and Chest Unit is run by board-certified pulmonary (lung) and critical care physicians. Services address all areas of pulmonary medicine including asthma, pneumonia, chronic persistent cough, tuberculosis, occupational lung injury, lung cancer evaluation, pulmonary vascular disease and chest wall problems. The department also provides a full range of services for patients with respiratory disorders of breathing during sleep, such as obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. With help from the pulmonary function laboratory, the asthma and chest unit performs a number of tests including cardiopulmonary (heart/lung) exercise stress testing, altitude evaluation for the need of oxygen during air flights, and other routine pulmonary function testing.
