Drug and Alcohol Abuse Services (Chemical Dependency)
ECMC offers individuals and families the most comprehensive treatment services available in Western New York, with inpatient and outpatient programs to fill a variety of needs. All treatment programs provide patients with state-of-the-art medications to treat addictions.
Day Reporting Program
In conjunction with Buffalo drug courts, the Day Reporting Program offers assessment, treatment and referral to those defendants whose arrest histories include alcohol and/or drug abuse. ECMC also partners with domestic violence courts and with other drug courts in Erie and Niagara Counties.
Outpatient Treatment Services
Outpatient treatment services include an Intensive Rehabilitation Intervention, a six-day-a-week, two-hour-a-day program for those outpatients needing intensive stabilization to become or remain drug-free. There are around 60,000 outpatient-treatment visits every year.
The General Clinic offers services for chronic relapse, vocational rehabilitation and domestic violence. All three clinics provide chemical-dependency treatment for adolescents, and family and conjoint counseling is offered as needed. As part of the treatment program, the Downtown Alcoholism Clinic has HIV testing.

Inpatient Treatment Services
Inpatient chemical dependency services include an Acute Alcohol and Chemical Dependency Program—a hospitalization lasting three to five days to medically detoxify a patient—and a 35-bed chemical-dependency rehabilitation program. Hundreds of patients are discharged from the rehabilitation program every year.
The Substance Intervention Program is a medically supervised inpatient detoxification unit for patients dependent on both drugs and alcohol. The Alcoholism and Drug Rehabilitation Program is a residential program with structured rehabilitation treatment.
