BUFFALO, NEW YORK; JULY 28, 2009-Kevin Pranikoff, MD, was recently appointed to a four-year term as a Board of Directors Member of the American Urological Association (effective April 30, 2009). 

The American Urological Association (AUA), founded in 1902, is the premier professional association for the advancement of urologic patient care, and works to ensure that its more than 16,000 members are current on the latest research and practices in urology.  The AUA also pursues its mission of fostering the highest standards of urologic care by providing a wide range of services-including publications, research, an Annual Meeting, continuing medical education (CME) and the formulation of health policy.

For the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Pranikoff is Vice-Chairman, Department of Urology (1991-present); Associate Professor of Urology (1986-present); and Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine (1991-present).  For Erie County Medical Center, Dr. Pranikoff is Clinical Director of Urology (1988-present). 

Dr. Pranikoff serves as an attending physician for the Kaleida Health system (Buffalo, New York).   He also functioned as: Consultant in Urology, Niagara Falls (New York) Memorial Medical Center (1985-98); Assistant and Fellow in Urological Surgery (1975-76) at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry; and Instructor and Fellow in Urological Surgery (1976-79).  Dr. Pranikoff held the rank of Lieutenant (1974-75) in the U.S. Navy at the Naval Regional Medical Center (San Diego, California) where he served as Emergency Room Physician (1973-74) and as Destroyer Squadron Physician on the COMDESRON FIVE STAFF.  He performed as Assistant in Surgery (1971-73) at the Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, Missouri). 

Dr. Pranikoff completed a residency in Urology at the University of Rochester (New York) Medical Center and a residency in General Surgery and an internship in Straight Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine, The Jewish Hospital of St. Louis (Missouri).  He earned his degrees as Doctor of Medicine (1971) at the University of Florida (Gainesville) and Bachelor of Science at Cornell University (Ithaca, New York). 

Among the awards and honors that Dr. Pranikoff received are: Gift of Life Award, National Kidney Foundation of Western New York (2003); Best Doctors in America, Selected Physician (1998-present); ECMC Springfest Physician Honoree (1998); the Mead, Johnson Excellence of Research Award, First Place, Resident Category, AMSA-UTMB National Student Research Forum; and a Letter of Commendation from the U.S. Navy awarded by the Commanding Officer of the USS Agerholm (DD826). 

Dr. Pranikoff is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and is certified by the American Board of Urology.  He is licensed to practice medicine in New York; California; and Missouri.  He is a reviewer for the publications: Neurology and Urodynamics; the Journal of Urology; and the British Journal of Urology, International. 

Dr. Pranikoff is a past member/officer of numerous professional organizations and a current member/officer of: the American Medical Association; the New York State Medical Society; the Medical Society of the County of Erie; the Maimonides Medical Society; the Buffalo Urological Society; The Northeastern Section, American Urological Association; the American Association of Clinical Urologists; The Society of University Urologists; the New York State Urological Society; the International Continence Society; the Buffalo Academy of Medicine; the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology; the American Spinal Injury Association; the Geriatric Urology Society; the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons; and the Univera Healthcare Western New York Physician Advisory Group (2007-present). 

Dr. Pranikoff serves on State University of New York medical school committees, including the: Faculty Council, Department of Urology as Representative (1989-present); Resident Grievance Committee (20005-present); and the University Faculty Practice Plan Governing Board (2005-present). 

Dr. Pranikoff is an: ECMC Corporation Board of Directors Member (2006-present); ECMC Medical/Dental Staff Nominating Committee Member (1985-present); ECMC Executive Committee, Department of Urology Representative (1987-present); ECMC Medical/Dental Staff past President (2003-04) and President-Elect (2000-2002); and a past Member of the ECMC Lifeline Foundation Board (1993-2006) and its Springfest Committee (1994-present). 

A respected teacher and instructor/presenter, Dr. Pranikoff is very well published, having coauthored numerous journal articles and book chapters.  He has also appeared on television news/health shows to discuss/explain such topics/conditions as sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence.
