ECMC Staff Brighten Patients' Day with Valentine's Roses
BUFFALO, NEW YORK; February 14, 2008 - We all know that good care can make the difference in your hospital stay. At ECMC, nurses and staff are dedicated to the overall healing of their patients, which was demonstrated today in celebration of Valentine's Day.
"Caring for patients is about more than providing medical care," notes Dr. John Fudyma, Chief Medical Officer at ECMC. "A smile, a laugh, or in this case a rose or card, will brighten our patients' day and lift their spirits, which is priority for our caring staff everyday."
Patients were delighted as they each received a rose or card from ECMC this morning. Red roses were given out to ECMC's inpatients.
"Being in the hospital on a holiday is not easy for anyone," says Dawn Walters, RN, Assistant Director of Nursing, Medical/Surgical units, ECMC. "By bringing the flowers to our patients, we are able to make it a little easier. And it is great to see their face brighten when they receive a rose."
The ECMC Corporation includes an advanced academic medical center (ECMC) with 550 inpatient beds and 136 skilled-nursing-home beds, on- and off-campus health centers, over 40 outpatient specialty care clinics and the Erie County Home, a skilled-nursing facility. ECMC is the regional center for trauma, burn care, and rehabilitation and is a major teaching facility for the State University of New York at Buffalo. Most ECMC physicians, dentists and pharmacists are dedicated faculty members of the University. More Western New York residents are discovering ECMC for exceptional patient care and customer service as a result of its Culture of Care.
