BUFFALO, NY; March 22, 2007-ECMC Corporation is pleased to announce that the American Heart Association (AHA) has awarded ECMC with an Initial Performance Award in Coronary Artery Disease for their success in using the Get With The GuidelinesSM (GWTG) quality improvement program. To qualify for the Initial Performance Award, there must be an achievement made that consists of 90 consecutive days of 85 percent adherence to the GWTG performance measures.
AHA's Get With The GuidelinesSM program allows healthcare provider teams to consistently treat heart and stroke patients according to the most up-to-date guidelines. It is designed to close the treatment gap in cardiovascular disease (CVD), the number one killer today in both males and females. Utilizing discharge protocols in the hospital setting will help ensure that cardiovascular disease patients are placed on appropriate medications and informed of recommended behavioral modifications. GWTG also helps to improve the rate of intervention with cardiovascular disease patients both in-hospital and post-discharge to reduce the rate of CVD events. Additionally, the program helps maximize quality of life for those patients and their families through improved outcomes and a reduction in recurring events.
Get With The Guidelines helps hospitals provide the best possible treatment to heart disease and stroke patients. GWTG compiles extensive research, converts it into treatment guidelines, and then helps hospitals adhere to those guidelines. Get With The Guidelines was the first hospital-based program to receive the prestigious Innovation in Prevention Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
