The existence of a world class, unified program and a consistent team in place will allow for a continuum of patient care and improved best practices and outcomes for patients affected by kidney disease. Additional benefits include:

• Creation of a new outpatient kidney clinical services program and evidence-based care model for comprehensive management of outpatient kidney services for more than 10,000 patients each year.
• Transplantation of an average of 150 kidneys and pancreas annually at one site.
• Expansion of the living donor program to address shortages of organs.
• Access to specialized services such as biopsies and ultrasounds for transplant assessments.
• A vascular access program to assist the work of the nephrologists and dialysis units.
• Partnerships with primary care providers to promote early intervention.
• A partnership with the University at Buffalo to promote the transition of new research into practice for improved outcomes.

Consolidating two programs at one site will provide a more concentrated clinical environment, which will result in greater expertise among physicians and support staff, a higher level of education and research, and improved outcomes for patients. A larger program will enable us to expand our academic research component to get answers quicker, implement improvements in procedures, advance the science of transplantation, and offer more resources to treat individual patients.“
